If you are, then you might be interested in pattern testing. Pattern testing is a great way to improve your crochet skills, support crochet designers, and get access to exclusive patterns before anyone else. But what does pattern testing involve? Here are some things you need to know:
  • Pattern testing requires taking and sharing photos of your crochet work. You can model your crochet item or just snap a picture of it on a flat surface. You also need to post some photos on your Instagram account (either on your feed or story) to show your progress and promote the pattern.
  • Pattern testing involves giving feedback and spotting errors. As a pattern tester, you are expected to follow the instructions carefully and report any mistakes or difficulties you encounter. This could be anything from wrong stitch counts, typos, unclear directions, etc. Your feedback will help the designer improve the quality and clarity of the pattern.
  • Pattern testing does not allow selling or sharing the pattern. The pattern you receive is for your personal use only and you cannot sell it or share it with anyone else. However, you can use the pattern as many times as you want and sell the finished items you make from it. Just make sure to credit the designer and link to their website or social media when you do so.
  • Pattern testing has a deadline that you need to respect. The designer will tell you when they expect you to finish testing the pattern and send them your feedback and photos. Thank you for applying to test my pattern! This little note is meant for those who are new to pattern testing:

  1. Pattern testing includes taking photos of the finished product (you can wear it or just take a stock photo of it) & during the testing period.
  2. You also shall share those photos on your Insta (feed/story) and tag the designer.
  3. You may take notes or highlight the mistakes (it is 100% there is gonna be a mistake or more e.g.: wrong counting, typos, and so on).
  4. You can’t sell the pattern, but you can use the pattern any time and sell the finished product just always highlight from who you got the pattern. Or ask permission to sell the product.
  5. Pattern designers usually give a deadline, it is your responsibility to finish testing on due.
  6. Crocheting is fun. Testing is fun. <3
